Row for the Cure® - Atlanta 2012

On Saturday, September 22, 2012, Atlanta area rowing clubs joined forces on the Chattahoochee River to raise over $55,000 in support of Susan G. Komen for the Cure Atlanta Affiliate and Row for the Cure®. Atlanta Junior Rowing Association was the winner of the first Row for the Cure® All-Star Challenge.

In addition to presentation of the challenge cup to the winning crew, prizes were awarded to individual boats for their creative expression in support of Row for the Cure®– decorated boats, coordinated t-shirts or costumes. ARC R-team 8+ won first prize while GA State 8+ and SARC 4+ also took home prizes. All rowers raising money received a Row for the Cure® commemorative bandana for their participation.

Thanks to Fisheye for providing great music at the park!

Fundraising will continue until the Head of the Hooch on November 3rd. Any checks collected can be mailed to:

History of the Atlanta Row-a-thon

In 2007, the Head of the Hooch Regatta elected to follow USRowing’s lead in supporting Row for the Cure as its philanthropic endeavor. The Hooch encouraged all participating teams to hold their own Row for the Cure event and offered an online fundraising tool. ARC and Saint Andrew Rowing Club adopted Row for the Cure® as their local community service project, and the two clubs sponsored the first day-long rowathon on the Chattahoochee River. Georgia State and Atlanta Junior Rowing Association joined in 2008 and GA Tech followed in 2009. In 2010, Greater Atlanta Komen for the Cure brought corporate sponsorships to the event to raising over $99,000 since 2010.

Each participating club determines its own row-a-thon schedule and fundraising goals. Clubs typically use time on the river as part of their practice schedule. SARC squads compete against each other for 100% participation and for the most raised by an individual.
