FAQs

  • Projects can include river clean up or other efforts that improve the environment around your home waterway.

Clubs can choose to host their own event or coordinate an activity with their local water keepers. Visit the Waterkeepers Alliance webpage to learn more about your local organization. There are over 350 water keepers around the world protecting more than 2.75 million acres of rivers, lakes, and coastal waterways across 6 continents!

If you have questions about whether your project qualifies or what kind of project you can host, email cleanwater[at]headofthehooch.org.

  • Each hour earned by each volunteer counts towards the total number of hours served! In other words, the total number of volunteer hours that are counted for a project are calculated as the [number of people] x [hours worked].

For example, if there are 8 people who each worked 2 hours, the total number of hours for the project will be 16 hours. For a team of 25 people, each person would need to volunteer for 2 hours to receive the full 10% discount for all entries for the team.

Teams that are not able to fulfill 50 hours can still receive a partial discount! See the FAQ, “Are there discounts if we complete less than 50 hours?”

  • Teams can earn a 10% discount per entry by completing an hour of service for each seat in the entry:

    8+ = 8 hrs

    4+/x = 4 hrs

    2x/- = 2 hrs

    1x = 1 hr

For example, a team of 8 rowers can each volunteer for 1 hour to receive a total of 8 hours that will earn a 10% discount on an entry for an 8+.

  • Upload a photo of your team at the project and tag us on Instagram at #headofthehooch

Verify the hours worked using the “Submit your project!” button at the top of the page. You can also download a printable version of the Water Cleanup Volunteer form form and upload an image of the completed form or the completed PDF.

If your team is completing fewer than 50 hours, please indicate which entries you would like to apply the discount to when you submit your project for verification. You can also download a printable version of the Registration Discount form and upload an image of the completed form or the completed PDF.

Printable versions of the Water Cleanup Volunteer form and the Registration Discount form are available for download at the bottom of this page.

  • A project supervisor needs to be appointed as a contact to verify the service hours, if needed. You will need to provide the contact information for the project supervisor when you submit your hours.

  • Volunteer hours need to be submitted via the “Submit your project!” button above before September 15, 2023.

Your project can occur at anytime before the submission deadline.

  • Teams will register their entries in RegattaCentral as usual. After the lottery is drawn and entries are accepted, the regatta registrar will apply discounts before teams are charged for their accepted entries.
