Public Safety

Walking Around the Venue

One of the unique features of the Head of the Hooch® Regatta is that everything is transpiring in one location and while that makes it convenient, it also requires everyone’s attentiveness when walking throughout the venue. There are over 2,100 boats maneuvering to and from the riverfront over the course of the event, with the largest being over 60’ long. As these boats swing around corners, they can be moving very quickly, so please be extremely conscious of your surroundings when walking through the venue. We would highly recommend NOT looking at your cell phone or mobile device while walking to avoid any unpleasant interactions with a rowing shell.

For your safety we have volunteers located at critical points where rowing shells and spectators may encounter one another, please pay attention to these volunteers’ instructions, they are there for your safety and the safety of the rowers and equipment.

COVID-19

All participants will be required to understand and follow the Hooch’s COVID-19 Protocols. Visit our COVID-19 policy page for more information.

Police & Fire

The Chattanooga Police and Fire Departments are on site for the safety of all throughout the entire regatta and they maintain a Command Center on site to respond to any emergencies.  Should you require police assistance, please reach out to any officer on site or volunteer for help.

Emergency Medical Services

In addition to EMT’s that are on site to handle any medical emergency, there is also a First Aid Tent located at the intersection of Riverfront Parkway and Power Alley (next to the Registration Tent).  In the event of an emergency, please contact any uniformed officer or volunteer for assistance.

Report Suspicious Activity

Should you observe any suspicious activity, please contact a police office or volunteer so the situation can be investigated by the proper authorities. If you see something, say something! Please be conscious of your surroundings at all times.
